The ADVIL® Forum On Health Education
Helping Americans Over 40
Lead Healthy, Active Lives
[Rule]

The ADVIL® Forum on Health Education is a not-for-profit organization created in 1987 to promote awareness of health issues among people of all ages.

A recent Forum initiative, Activity Made Easy...For 40+ Fitness, is a nationwide program designed to galvanize mature Americans into a more active, healthy lifestyle.

The foundation of the initiative is the ADVIL® Fit Over 40 Standards. They provide a benchmark for various components of overall fitness, and are based on the average results of extensive research with hundreds of volunteers over 40.

The Standards were designed to achieve the following:

  • Help people 40 and over to become more active;

  • Establish fitness standards by which 40+ individuals can compare themselves to others of their age and sex and provide appropriate starting points;
  • Educate individuals about the various components of an overall fitness program.

Recent studies have shown that many of the physical effects associated with aging, such as decreased aerobic capacity, loss of muscular strength and declining flexibility are probably more directly related to inactivity than age.

Part of the challenge is that many people over 40 who want to be more active don't know at what level they should begin. They may try to do too much too soon, leading to frustration, quitting, and in the worst case, injury.

The program features The Nolan Ryan Fitness Guide and interactive workshops at more than 2,000 health clubs nationwide that demonstrate how fun and easy fitness can be!
