Jane Berkowitz
		Think of her as the counterpart of Scotland Yard's Ian Montague -- in Manhattan, and female. You don't find many nice Jewish girls who were raised on Central Park West, went to socialist summer camps, Ethical Culture School, and Mount Holyoke -- and then ended up as junior-grade detectives on the New York City Police Department. But Jane Berkowitz was never one to be reduced to a cultural stereotype. As an investigator, what she lacks in aggression, she makes up in persistence. She always gets her man. Or woman. It's what she does for fun.
